Konigstein Fortress — Germany
"Back in 2013 the wheels were set in motion for creating a 1/15th scale parade representing August Der Starke, his soldiers on horseback, various carriages and on lookers for the Konigstein Fortress in Germany. The project was finished in 2015 — In total I sculpted x61 people, x45 horses, x1 dog and x1 cat."
"Each commission begins with a written brief outlining the narrative behind the display. Character pose, expression, and gesture are confirmed before wire armature construction and wax sculpting begin. The completed wax master is then moulded, cast in resin, and painted in an appropriate colour scheme for the era."
"From historical portraits to the finer details of costume and character design — I work alongside the historian to try and bring their vision to life."
"Historically accurate horse breeds were used throughout the procession, from sturdy Dray horses to August de Starke's white stallion and the working cart horses pulling supply wagons. In total, three different breeds were created, each with a unique pose, mane, tail, and expression."
"The soldiers, peasants, and workers were individually sculpted to bring the historical procession to life."
"You can see this display at the permanent exhibition — 'In lapiden regis' at Festung Königstein. The Fortress itself has an incredible history and is set in the most beautiful countryside. Well worth a visit."

Mrs. Greta Boyd
Wrinkles, texture and character — Greta Boyd is a singular 1/12th scale figure sculpted with extraordinary lifelike detail. Her narrative shifts entirely through how she is dressed and accessorised: the same form, entirely different stories.
Created through wire armature construction, wax sculpting, moulding, and resin casting. Greta comes to life with glass eyes, eyelashes, and hand-inserted wool hair. Her identity can shift simply by changing her hair, clothing, and accessories.

Toy
Shopkeeper
This bespoke project involved designing and sculpting a 1/12th scale Victorian toy shopkeeper, depicted as a warm, elderly gentleman presenting a child with a newly purchased toy.
The character's friendly expression was developed collaboratively with the client, drawing inspiration from the expressive character of French comedian Louis de Funès.
Each commission begins with a clear brief. From there, visual references are sourced from books, online research, and photography — to refine expression, pose, clothing, hairstyle, accessories, and skin tone.
"The figure was designed with a range of removable accessories — including a pocket handkerchief, playing cards, banknotes, coins and a magnetic clip-on bag with toy dogs — allowing the character's role to be easily adapted and re-imagined."
Museum Projects
Large-scale historical commissions for permanent museum installation. Each project begins with archival research and close collaboration with historians and curators.

About the Artist
"I'm Sarah, a sculptor working primarily with miniature animal forms."
Each piece begins as a hand-sculpted original, with careful attention paid to expression, posture, and detail. Some designs take longer than others — weather, materials, and the occasional stubborn pattern all play their part — but I enjoy the process just as much as the finished piece.
Alongside individual commissions and available works, Sarah has undertaken major museum installations — most notably the Konigstein Fortress commission in Germany, a 1/15th scale parade of 61 figures completed in 2015.
Commissions
Every commission is a collaboration. Whether you have a detailed brief or a single image, the process begins with conversation. Museum-scale installations, portrait miniatures and bespoke private commissions are all welcome.
Brief & Discussion
Each commission begins with a written brief outlining the narrative behind the piece. Character pose, expression, and gesture are discussed and confirmed before work begins.
Armature & Sculpt
A wire armature is constructed to support the figure. Wax sculpting begins — the most time-intensive stage, where every detail is worked by hand.
Mould & Cast
The completed wax master is moulded and cast in resin, preserving every surface detail of the original sculpt.
Paint & Finish
Each cast is painted by hand in an appropriate colour scheme — for historical commissions, this is researched against period records and reference images.
Portrait Commissions
A portrait of your pet, sculpted to scale and painted from photographs. Suitable as a permanent keepsake or display piece.
Museum & Heritage
Large-scale historical installations for permanent display. Previous work includes a 61-figure commission for Festung Königstein, Germany.
